Phase II: Site Investigations

Our staff are experienced in collecting relevant data and designing, directing and evaluating subsurface investigations - the initial phase of any project.

EMS undertake intrusive site investigations tailor-made to your requirements. Designed in line with the findings of the desk study in order to satisfy the relevant authorities and stakeholders.

All surveys are carried out in accordance with the relevant standards including BS:10175, BS:5930 and CLR11. We use both traditional and innovative site investigation techniques to characterise contaminants and ground conditions. These techniques include, but are not limited to:

  • Mapping services and utilities
  • Topographic and ordnance surveys
  • Exploratory trial pitting utilising a range of hydraulic excavators
  • Hand pitting or hand auguring where access is severely restricted, or the site is sensitive (e.g. graveyards)
  • Dynamic window sampling
  • Cable percussion boring
  • Rotary coring through bedrock
  • Infiltration tests and other in-situ permeability tests
  • Non-invasive testing
  • Soil testing and installation of monitoring wells for groundwater and ground gas (if necessary) can be undertaken concurrently with the investigation, thus saving time and money at a later date. We also offer a wide range of geotechnical services. More information can be found by clicking here

Chemical analysis of soil and water is undertaken by a MCERTS and UKAS accredited laboratory to ensure full quality of data.
