What is a Demolition Survey and why do you need one?

Demolition surveys are fully intrusive asbestos surveys which penetrate all areas of a building structure. They are intended to locate all the asbestos in the building, or the relevant section prior to the demotion. For more details please contact us.

As part of Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR), it is a requirement to complete a fully intrusive demolition survey and remove all asbestos before demolition takes place.

How do EMS carry out a Demolition Survey?

The method used for this type of survey is to isolate the area prior to the survey. The asbestos surveyor will then carry out fully intrusive techniques including inspection in wall cavities and uplifting floorboards. A fully intrusive survey will entail damage being incurred to areas of the property, to ensure that all spaces are accessed and sampled as necessary. Properties are usually vacant prior to the survey and access to all areas of the building will be required.  Once the survey has been carried out all samples will be analysed by a UKAS accredited laboratory and a full asbestos survey report will then be issued. This report details the area covered, the asbestos detected and advises on the removal prior to the demolition.
